Cthulhu is a big green monster which resembles a humanoid with squidlike tentacles on his face, large vampirish wings and big claws. In "The Call of Cthulhu" by H.P. Lovecraft, Cthulhu sleeps in a tomb in the city of R'lyeh, under the Pacific Ocean. Sometimes this lost city of R'lyeh rises up from the ocean, and Cthulhu's visions cause humans around the world to worship him, killing, carving statues, creating religions, building temples and the like. Very soon, R'lyeh will rise up to stay, and Cthulhu will wake and devour every soul on earth.
