But where did the Hackmasters of Everknight come from? Where did it begin? Well, in 1990, the first Knights of the Dinner Table strip was created as an afterthought - filler to take up space on the last page of the small press publication Jolly Blackburn was putting out in his spare time.

Knights of the Dinner Table (also known as KoDT) quickly became a household word - at least in the houses of gamers and comic fans - and began to appear in monthly magazines, finally growing into a monthly comic book magazine and spawning a roleplaying game (HackMaster) of its own. But there was yet another world within this one. In the KODT universe, one of the most well-known characters is the fictional entrepreneur Gary Jackson, President of Hard 8 Enterprises. Gary wrote medieval fantasy novels, based on the HackMaster roleplaying game characters he played with his buddies - the Hackmasters of Everknight. This is their story. . .
