'As the first president of the International Space Security Agency, it is my honor to call this meeting to order. Never before has humanity seen such a gathering of economic might. Never before, however, has humanity been at the brink of annihilation.

You've read the briefings. You now know that we've discovered irrefutable proof of hostile alien activity on our very planet. Though currently isolated incidents, these encounters can only lead to one undeniable and terrifying conclusion: they are but the precursor to a full-scale alien invasion.

The public knows nothing of this. We, however, are not the public. We are the captains of industry. Under the guise of the U.N. and other such organization, the leaders of the world have secretly funneled billions into the coffers of ISSA with the sole purpose of funding the research and development needed to defeat this threat to humanity's very survival.

Despite our best efforts, we cannot assume that even this coalition can remain uncompromised. To this end, we must work independently towards our common goal. We will help one another when we can risk coming together, but I urge you: be miserly with your trust. They will try to destroy us. If not from the outside, then from within.

I find it appropriate that ISSA has chosen to adorn its crest with an image of Archimedes. Like Archimedes, we have been charged to create fantastic machines that must defend our homeland against invasion.

Let us no forget, however, that in the end Archimedes failed at his task.

May we fare somewhat better.'
