The creatures described within this tome are known to the people of Mythic Europe, the setting of Ars Magica. Thus, there are well-known, common animals - horses and hounds, cats and crows - and other, more exotic beasts - dragons, gryphons, and sirens. Mundane and magical beasts, each presented with a description written by Caprea of House Bjornaer, which reflect her views as a magi and scholar in the Order of Hermes.
